Four years ago, as the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic was just beginning, may of us were impacted by the uncertainty about our health, our jobs, and were to go for help. What we saw across the country were mutual aid efforts, created by community, step in to fill the gaps that local/federal government could not provide. They did amazing things from gathering supplies to providing access to information. They even raised and distributed a significant amount of funds to cover our direct needs.

For this Learn-in, we want to both celebrate and learn from the amazing work that these mutual aid groups provided. What drove them to do this work? What were their successes? What were some challenges? Now that we are past the worst of the pandemic, what do they see their role now?

We also know that mutual aid has a long history, especially in our Black and immigrant communities. How has that influenced the present work?

Join VASEN as we bring a group of mutual aid groups from around Virginia to share what they have learned and how we can continue to support these efforts.

Speakers include

Lonesome Pine Mutual Aid

Cville Community Cares

and others
